Working from home is a tough decision especially when you have already built yourself in the corporate world and used to the nine-hour work that you always do plus the company benefits that you have to give up. But looking at the bright side, you will have more time for your family and you can avoid the hassle of traffic that you need to face every day.
Why did I choose to work from home?
I work in Ortigas as an accountant for 6 years years to one of the most advanced companies in manufacturing industrial refrigeration compressors. I still remember when I got hired, I was very happy because that was my dream then to work in Manila (I came from Cabuyao, Laguna). But as time goes by, each and every day waking up early, preparing and traveling to work, felt very tiring. Because of the traffic that becomes more and more toxic as years passed by and the daily routine that I had to face every day. And the fact that I no longer want to experience again that my own child no longer recognizes me because they hardly ever see me. They were always sleeping when I leave the house for work and already asleep when I arrive at night.
But jumping in to work from home from the corporate world is not easy. You must ask yourself first the question “What are the things that I need to get started?” Because just like any other ventures, it is needed to be planned out before taking any action.
Things Needed to Get Started in Work from Home

1. A Proper Exit
Since I am still employed when I decided to work from home, I had to inform the company and file my resignation letter for them to fill up the position that I’ll leave and do the transition.
2. Your Workstation
It can be a laptop or a desktop computer with a stable and reliable internet connection and a back up in case of a sudden electricity outage. It must also be equipped with a high-definition camera and a noise-canceling headset since most of the interviews are done through video-calling.

3. Your Work Space
Just like any offices, you must have your own space to set up your workstation. It can be in any corner of your house that is free from distraction. Not only will it help you focus on your job, but it will also make it easier to disconnect and relax when you’re done with your tasks for the day.
4. Your Services
You need to ask first yourself with the questions, “What services that I can provide?”, “How can I find a job?”, “What sites can I find work to work from home?”, “Who am I going to work for?” and “Why am I doing this?” Answering these questions can help you define and refine your purpose, your brand and yourself.

5. Believe that You Can Do It!
Working from home can be very rewarding yet challenging, you must prepare yourself not only physically but also mentally. But when you believe in yourself accompanied by faith in God, anything and everything is possible. And having a core group other than your family to support is a BIG PLUS!
